One of the most frequent questions we get asked by people transitioning to raw food for their pet, is about safe handling and storage of the product. The PFMA (Pet Food Manufacturers Association) have published a great poster which provides clear advice on raw food handling.
The core message is that you would treat the handling of raw meat for your pet in the same way that you would handle raw meat that you are preparing for your own meals; wash your hands carefully after handling, and ensure that you clean down any areas that you have used during the preparation.
- Keep the product frozen until required
- Defrost in a leak-proof container
- Wash hands and utensils after handling
- Dispose of uneaten foods
- Thoroughly clean all preparation areas
